Question by ohshit.itschris: Reformatted HD, windows xp wont boot from disk?
i purchased a plug (kingwin ez-connect) for my old desktop HD, to hook up, and plug into my laptop, to reformat the drive. immediately after i did that, i put it back into my desktop, and tried booting from the XP disk to install a clean copy, but ive had a quantity of difficulties:
very first.. it keeps loading to a black screen saying “strike f1 to retry, or f2 to start utility” (dont really feel like carrying out it again, as ive carried out it like 40 times)
f2 requires me to the bios, which i make sure the cd rom is set to the major boot, hd 2nd (tried each checked and unchecked) and the diskette drive third.
when the hd is checked, it will take me to a display that says “BOOTMGR is missing, press ctrl alt delete to restart”
so i do that once more, and yet again, but it refused to read from the cd rom.
i dont have a floppy drive on my laptop computer, but i dont assume that would perform either.
i am at the moment in an it class, and currently have my A+ certs… but im fucking stumped. idk what the difficulty could be, or why its being like this. ive put in xp countless times on virtual machines and such. never ever had difficulties like this.
im sure the cd drive isnt damaged or bad. everything is in operating situation, it just wont function. (if thats can make sense)
any tips would be appreciated.
ive tried that, when i do the boot menu, i pick cd rom, and it says press f1 to retry. and it keeps saying that.
